T&C apply regarding existing installation of water meter. If work cannot be completed for the above mentioned price you will be notified before any chargeable work commences.
Recently we noticed that the water pressure in the area is extremely high, and nearly double what the legal requirement is.
The problems that high water pressure can cause include major wear and tear on all plumbing fixtures and fittings including voiding warranties on tapware, toilet cisterns, washing machines, dishwashers, hot water heaters and fittings.
It is not unusual to find that flexible plumbing hoses can burst, flooding your house and causing $1000’s of dollars’ worth of damage and hassle.
Signs if high water pressure include:
- Ongoing plumbing maintenance issues
- Screeching pipes and water hammer
- Burst pipes
- Reduced life of appliances
Below is an extract from the plumbing Australian Standards AS/NZ3500.1
Provision shall be made to ensure that the maximum static pressure at any outlet, other than a fire service outlet, within a building does not exceed 500 kPa.
NOTE: Pressures above 500 kPa can cause damage from water hammer, reduced life of appliances, taps and fittings, and cause excessive noise in the system.
A comment from ACTPLA’s senior plumbing inspector Andrew Ives in a recent Master Plumbers ACT news letter.
“As you can see this clause even goes to the extent of supplying an explanatory note as to why the clause should be adhered too. When pressure is found to be excessive the licensed plumber needs to make provision (i.e. pressure limiting valve) for the installation to be in compliance. “
