Damaged PEX pipe repaired with new Auspex fittings in Canberra.

When water starts hissing behind a wall, you know it’s serious. That was the case for a Canberra townhouse owner who called Water Tight Canberra after spotting signs of a hidden leak. Our plumber Liam responded swiftly, identified the issue on the spot, and carried out a thorough, cost-effective repair. The result? A happy customer and another 5-star review.

Problem

The client reported hearing a hissing noise in the lounge room wall of their townhouse. With adjoining walls, they were concerned the leak could spread and cause damage to neighbouring properties if left unchecked.

Assessment

Liam arrived promptly – within two hours of the call, according to the customer – and used sound location to pinpoint the loudest section of the leak. He carefully cut open the gyprock wall, exposing a pinhole leak on a PEX pipe running through the wall cavity.

Importantly, he explained the potential repair costs upfront before starting work, keeping the client informed and reassured every step of the way.

What We Did

  • Wall access: Opened the gyprock wall at the leak point to expose the faulty pipe.
  • Pipe repair: Cut out the damaged section of PEX pipe.
  • New fittings: Installed a replacement section of 20mm Auspex pipe with 2x Auspex LF adaptors.
  • Testing: Restored the water supply, checked thoroughly for leaks, and confirmed correct operation across the system.
  • Quality assurance: Ensured there were no secondary leaks in adjoining pipework, giving the homeowner complete peace of mind.

Materials & Standards

  • Auspex LF Adaptor 22pb P/F x 20mm (x2) – secure, durable fittings meeting Australian Standards.
  • 20mm Auspex PEX pipe section – industry standard for internal water lines, built for longevity.

The work was completed in line with ACT plumbing regulations, with a focus on durability and safety.

Results

The leak was repaired on the first visit, with no further water loss or damage risk. The customer was relieved to have the issue resolved so quickly and praised Liam’s upfront communication, fair pricing, and thorough workmanship.

⭐ Customer Review:
“Very good service. Water Tight attended site within two hours of reporting a leak issue. Liam was great. He identified the source of the leak immediately, was upfront about potential costs and kept the overall final cost to a fair price for the work performed. Liam was extremely thorough in ensuring there were no additional leaks affecting water supply. Would highly recommend Water Tight, and Liam in particular.”

Tips

  1. Don’t ignore hissing walls – This often signals a pressurised leak inside the wall cavity.
  2. Get leaks repaired fast – The sooner you act, the less damage to walls, floors, and neighbouring properties.
  3. Ask for upfront pricing – A good plumber explains costs before starting work.
  4. Use licensed professionals – PEX repairs must meet compliance standards to prevent future failures.

Location Notes

This job was carried out at a townhouse in Canberra with shared walls. Internal leaks in multi-dwelling properties require urgent attention to prevent water spreading between units – one of the reasons Water Tight Canberra prioritises same-day response for leak emergencies.
